What sealant can I use on reassembling an overdrive unit

Hello there,
I have just taken the overdrive off my old knackered (1500) gearbox and intend to put it on a new one. As it was the first time I have attempted such a swap I ended up taking it off it 2 bits... the main bulk of it came off first and the adapter bit came of afterwards (i am fairly sure I didn't need to do it like this now) thus exposing all the cogs and internals.
I now wish to make this one unit again, is there any specific sealant that I should use, I have a copper based mastic one which is said to have "very good oil resistance". Will that do? Is there now a specific gasket or is it just bonded together?
Thanks for your time.
