Axle power rating

Hi all
Does anyone have any numbers on what the rating is on the standard 1500 axle? I'll be putting 230hp/300nm so I want to know if I need a LSD to make is up to 500hp

I'm (hopefully) putting 130bhp through a 1500 auto axle so would be good to know this as well. I'm expecting it to last about 5 minutes, but you never know..

I'm on my 3rd diff behind a TR7 engine.
Triumph used the Sprint diff for a reason.
110bhp max on the smaller diff. 200 on a Sprint one

So what was braking on yours? The half shafts or the diff centre

On my spitfire I have a 3.63 (so essentially identical to dolly 1500) diff. That diff lasted approx 150k in my 2.5 vitesse (I previously destroyed 3x 3.27's) and it then went in my last spitfire the Friday morning of the 2008 RBRR. 36 hours later the car was written off......
It is now in my current spitfire, 150+bhp and I have driven it with respect. I am terrified it will pop. I did have to replace the output shaft seals, but it had been sitting for 8 years.
The sprint diff is way stronger, but as jonners says, 200bhp is really the limit.
More than that you need to fit an axle off something else. Not sure Ford stuff will cope with 500bhp.

Would a ford English axle handle the power? Like something out of an escort

Pretty much anything will struggle with 500 brake! A guy I heard of recently put a similar output V8 in a triumph 2000 and destroyed the original diff with the first pullaway then proceeded to destroy 2x 7 series BMW LSDs before buying an uprated M5 LSD which is holding out at the moment!
The Factory BTCC Sprints were putting out circa 220 bhp through a homologated LSD so one of these should just about handle the power o your 230 motor but the massive torque might overstress it.

The 500 hp is the rating for the Quaife LSD supplied by rimmerbros, I won't be exceeding 300nm as that's the gearbox limit

I would contact quaife direct, they should be able to advise. But I wouldn't want that power going through a triumph CWP (personally speaking)
On top of that, assuming you have some sticky rubber, the shafts may well not survive and just twist up.
Yo should have a dig about on the drag racing forums, see what they use.

I've talked to rimmerbros before this and they said 500, called Quaife and they passed me onto Moss something who would sell me one cheaper than rimmers and Quaife. I can't remember what power rating he said but I would hope that the centre mechanism will be stronger than the standard one

Pinion bearings and a nasty whine....
All got home with no breaks....
TR7 V8 or SD1 will work....3.08 to 1 too...but needs shortening.

So in theory, it should handle it, and as for sticky rubber, I'll leave the sprint alloys on with cheap rubber and see if the duff can handle it, then go for my planned 15x8 wheels

The diff may or not be strong enough but even if the diff is up to it what about the crownwheel thats bolted to it? The pinion bearings have to take more load too. In essence what im saying is an expensive diff wont necessarily make the other things stronger. English diff/axles are stupid money too. Maybe a toyota could yield a decent axle complete, with fabrication to make it fit of course.
If it was me I'd pop a sprint axle in there with or without lsd and see how it goes.
If youre traction limited via tyres the diff wont see the torque

English axles are expensive but I bought one for another project then didn't use it so I have one around to use,
If I use sprint 13x5, it shouldn't break it, I'll try that first

I would replace yours with a sprint as it will fit and bear in mind that suppliers of parts such as Rimmers want to sell you something.
If the engine is turbo charged it will load up gradually where if you use a stonking great V8 it will dump a bucket of torque all at once breaking things as it goes.
I believe Darren (600+bhp sprint man) used a Nissan pickup truck axle.
