I swapped out the ugly black plastic fuel filler cap ages ago for a secondhand chrome one. The pivot for the little flap failed so now I have a chrome cap where the lock is visible in the middle. It's still better than the black one.....

It's not repairable. Does anyone know if the Rimmers chrome ones fit a Sprint? In particular the lozenge shaped one.

Or is there anywhere else you can get chrome locking petrol caps.

Is there still lots of fuel theft these days?
My 'new' Dolomite has had one of the ugly black plastic filler caps fitted at some point. I've looked around for a locking chrome cap but they seem hard to find. Failing that I'd go back to using an original non-locking chrome item if I could find one - is a Herald cap the same?

A Herald cap is the same, locking or standard.

There is still fuel theft, but it's mostly forecourt drive offs these days. Nearly every car built since the early 80s has anti-syphon measures in place from new so nicking petrol from cars is not the problem it once was. The Carledo still has it's original non locking cap and i've never had a problem - but then, I live in the arse end of nowhere!

It doesn't have to be a locking one. I'm not paranoid about fuel theft.

I used to have a 1500TC and that just had a simple chrome cap. That would be OK but I might as well get a locking one if I'm going to do it. I just saw the Rimmers ones and wondered if they fitted.

Yes, my Spitfire's fuel consumption dramatically increased after I fitted a locking cap!

Well Rimmers tell me the chrome ones don't fit. Odd since there was a pic of someone's car on here with one that looked identical. After that they told me they were all out of stock anyway.

I was looking at one from a mini, a proper mini not this modern day huge car

Marko, I think its a Mini cap that's on my car in this pic. It was really second hand when I found it, so I'm not sure.
However, its really difficult to get on and off because the Sprint's filler neck is almost flush with the body work, whereas the Mini's neck sticks out a little.
I have trouble getting my fingers to grip on it and mostly use the black lockable ones as a result. Much easier to operate.
The chrome one does look HEAPS better, though.

The Waso type is the version it's got but the little flap has come away where it's pivot snapped.

Sundowner - it does look MUCH better with a chrome cap. Interesting your car has no vinyl roof?

Thought I was losing it at first as I was sure that I had posted on this, but I see that this is for a chrome locking cap, and the other thread is just a locking cap!

Same applies though, have a look two threads down from here to see if there's anything useful being said.

The locking cap not only prevents stuff from being removed, but also added...sugar, urine etc
