Too much carb for the engine IMO, you only need the '8s for serious high rev breathing.

Not a lot. HS6 will supply more than enough mixture for a standard cam to standard revs.

You only need bigger carbs if you need to supply a greater volume of mixture to the engine. This would be due to increased valve opening through increased lift or duration cam, bigger valves or through increased rev limit.

Increasing carb size without increasing flow rate can be detramental as the flow rate of the mixture falls. If the mixture flows too slowly the petrol literally falls out of the gas. Dave P has a BHP figure 2xHS6 are good too iirc.

on a slightly different note i had twin 45 webbers fitted to my standard sprint engine in the late eighties, there where no real performance gains in the lower rev range and a very slight increase at the top end. stick with the hs6's for alround driveability.

I put HS8s on a standard Sprint. Waste of time. Could never get it to idle properly & pulling away was a mare. Once it hit about 3000rpm it took off but wasn't that much quicker than with HS6s. Not a nice car to drive.
Sprintless for the first time in 35+ years. :boggle2: ... Still Sprintless.

Engines, Gearboxes, Overdrives etc. rebuilt. PM me.

Fit a K&N filter (preferably the panel one in the airbox if you still have it, or the really deep round ones (bigger than rimmers suggest) if not, and then jet the carbs to suit. It'll be a worthwhile gain throughout the rev range.
