Hi everyone
Eventually planning to put sprint alloys on my 1300 - I love the look.

Ive got a full set but they are not in the best of shape- mainly due to laquer peel.

I've spent ages trying to sand back one by hand, and it is just an absolute nightmare- the laquer turns green and is really stubborn to get off, i'm not even half way!

On top of this, i'm a bit worried about the wheels being completely out of balance when i'm done,

I don't suppose that there's some magic formula to get rid of this laquer? apart from hours and hours of elbow grease?

Elbow grease is indeed the answer along with some wet & dry. Don't worry about the wheels being out of balance unless you've knocked any weights off the rim. It can be sorted when you come to replace the tyres. Have you got the wheel nuts? Your Dolly 1300 will have 3/8" studs so make sure you get the correct nuts.

No wheel nuts as of yet, but i will be on the lookout fairly soon

or any stripper that contains DCM (will be labelled professional or industrial use only)
Nitromors etc are useless.

Years ago I was in the same situation with a little Ford Laser/Mazda 323.
I got a tip from a mate who suggested that I buy a pressure pack of "Gasket stripper" to remove the coating.
I did.....and it did. Easy.

Pay £40 and get a pro to blast them. Not worth the effort by hand imo. Back to the metal after blasting, easy to polish the rims back and paint the black in the spokes

Of course the wheels will get balanced when tyres are fitted, the fitting of a tyre affects the balance of the assembly!

So much so, I've seen a tyre refitted rotated by 180º when the balance as initially tested after fitting was particularly bad.

I have a set of 16 3/8 nuts that I was just about to put on fleabay this weekend if you are interested.

I am really tempted by the blasting, but maybe i should try the gasket stripper? Well, i've got some time to figure it out. I will make sure I post my results for anyones future reference- Now to decide whether to go mirror polish or original look......

On another note i've just found a sizal wheel, for the drill, might speed things up with some compounds.
