Sprint track car- JAE

Hi all, have posted very little if at all on the forum. But considering that I'm getting the track car up to a better standard I thought I would document it on here.

Car originally came from a well known member and friend Dan (dolly-nut) so some of you may be familiar with it to an extent. Unsure if he did much documentation on it here so I shall start from the beginning!

Pictures from when Dan saved it from the scrapyard- A standard 1850hl which had been garaged since 1994??

Image

Just after I purchsed it from Dan

Shortly after fitting the new wellers :D

And now where it currently stands :( not such a great position- but you have to start somewhere!

Image

So whats the plan with it?

Currently on order from the club I have new GRP front wings and front valance. As the front panel had gone so I thought since I'm here I would replace the lot!

Hoping to order from Sprint Speed in the next week or so a set of Rob's Bubble arches which should look great :D

Picked up a pair of 45s!

Image

But still looking for a manifold :/

Have the current Wellers banded to fill the arches when they're done

A few other niggley bits then a Respray in a bronzey brown!

Thanks for reading, hopefully it shouldn't be too long until the next update

IIRC, in Dan's hands, this was a pretty quick car. Of course he IS somewhat, how shall I put this politely, certifiable!
Good luck with the build though, always good to see another quick one on the stocks.

Will you be attending again this year?

I had banded wheels cracked in the centre because of the extra strain. Not during showuse :D but when doing trackday's i would regulary check your wheels.

This looks good, I like a quick Sprint. You're in the right place though, loads of photos and updates please! :D

Steves right, Dan's a nutter! In a nice way if you're reading this Dan 8)!

I've bought loads of bits from him in the past, did you see his 'parts storage facility' in the back garden?

Haha of course I've seen the parts storage! I spend most of my spare time at Dans when I'm not working away.

Here's a picture of my old Toledo that seemed to be its natural habitat (with the bonnet up)

That's cool Steve, I managed to get a spot on the last day lol! Hopefully I will be a worthy and keep the carledo/sprint rivalry going

Just a quick update! no pictures unfortunately

1 thing forget to be mentioned was the Roll bar I won off ebay from trackerjack- so heres a nod in the direction of john for the ease of that one :)

Have also got confirmation of the bubble arches from Rob- yet another exciting addition!

Also currently working away a lot for the company I started my working life with I suddenly had a brain wave that they have a fully equipped professional spray booth/s (albeit for furniture). Being that there is a track car in sore need of a respray we can only hope there is a lul over a weekend to take advantage of this ;) .

things are moving in the general positive direction- so hopefully will have pictures up soon!!

Hi all, finally a worthwhile update!

The Dolomite is finally back home- pics follow

Sourced thanks to the help of the community a Weber inlet manifold and a Jigsaw racing big bore downpipe thanks to the help of alolympic and lazaruspete- so cheers guys! :D

Image

I have also made the trek to Alun in Stourbridge and am now an owner of a complete club GRP front end! I also have confirmation of delivery of the bubble arches tomorrow from sprint speed!

So I shall be hitting in to it tomorrow with the mechanical side. Starting with taking the head off due to headgasket (boo) no matter though as I now need to match the exhaust primaries for the bigger downpipe anyway.

That will then follow with the conversion to bigger carbs and a more free flowing exhaust :D yippee.

I shall then follow on with the body work getting it to a stage where its primed and rust roughly treated, and if time allows before track day I shall be having all bodywork fitted. So for those going it will once again be a mismash of colours and various stages of classic BL rust

There's other bits and pieces I'm sure that will be getting done, but I shall be getting lots of pictures and documenting it here. Stay tuned at the track day is on the 12th of April- Mad or stupid it will be there!!

Hi all,

just a quick update as I've been a bit rubbish and not taking enough pictures- I have also not been doing as much as I had initially planned as logistics of working in London in the week and working on the car in Dorset on the weekends is slightly tricky!

However!

The arches turned up from sprint speed, not being fitted until after TR register track day at castle combe on the 12th april
Image

I have however had time to fit my Webers and jigsaw racing downpipe which should give some gains- if not anything a better sound!
Image

So the plans for after the track day will be to get the bodywork all sorted: GRP front end, bubble arches and then a respray.

Then to rebuild my spare engine to a decent spec as my current is completely standard internally. Still massively umming and arghing over how far I go and how much money I wish to throw at it though!

hopefully see some of you out at combe on the 12th!

Rob
