As ill be doing a rally build on my 1500TC engine, is it worth upgrading to solid engine mounts rather than using stock rubber ones?
what are the pros and cons of using solid mounts?

There are no real advantages to solid mounts and the disadvantages, mainly noise and vibration, will drive you round the twist. Get some nice firm stock ones (NOS if possible) and leave it at that.

What about using polyurathane rack bushes such as the Super Flex ones?

Oh bolox! I had the steering rack shim mount on the brain. I was also thinking of a solid rack mounting thread that's kicking about at the moment.

If you struggle to find decent mounts, jag E type are a possible substitute with little fettling. And available as OEM stuff.

use a 1/2" unf bolt for the ccentre, the other 2 holes are very close to the dolly spacing. Plus the mounts are firm, I have used them in my TR7 engined toledo, zetec engined spitfire and they are used on caterhams too.
Cheaper repro ones are available....
