Bit of advice needed, anyone ever fitted the Jigsaw stainless Sprint exhaust to an 1850? I'm being told that it's position is not compatible with the 1850 down pipe, but surly it can be made to fit? Or not?

Jigsaw do not make exhausts, they sell a system made by others. If it is the same system that is sold by Rimmers, then it can be fitted to an 1850.

OK It's not made by them, but according to their site by phoenix performance exhaust. I dont think its the rimmers system,given the price, £590, and the pictures don't look like it either. They state it's a Sprint system.

From information in an old Triumph World magazine I gather the Jigsaw exhaust is a two silencer box design....
the front box is transversely mounted onto the original Sprint offside brackets and the back box is under the boot (petrol tank),
again on the original brackets. This is made exclusively for Jigsaw by Phoenix exhausts in South Devon.

It will be possible to fit this exhaust to an 1850 if you are prepared to make up an adapter pipe (from the front pipe to the first box)
and install brackets for hanging the transverse box and the back box.

The Rimmers sports system says Sprint but I have recently fitted one to my 1850, Have to buy or make the down pipe adapter,and find another mounting half way ish. If it's the same then can definitely be done.

I've had an 1850 so afflicted.

You get sick of the din and go back to the original, as well as being a PITA to fit.

Jonners, that's why I got rid of mine. It made a horrible noise at 60mph. A standard exhaust is much better. I've got one of the new club stainless exhausts on order so I'll be reporting on it when it gets delivered and fitted.

As confirmed by Rich and me, the Rimmer's sports exhaust DOES fit the 1850 with the correct downpipe.

An auto ALWAYS sounds cr*p on a sports exhaust cos the slushbox won't let the engine rev enough for it to sing! I had the same problem with one of my Auto Cavs, had a lovely stainless bigbore that I got off a breaker, a manual car I drove home from from London and it sounded AWESOME. Put it on the Auto and it just sounded like a long wet fart AND took the edge off the low rev grunt so back to standard post haste!
I have a Rimmers Sport system on the Carledo and it sounds great but the Auto Sprint has and will keep the stainless copy of an original Sprint system despite the Omega engine it's getting.

Haven't done much mileage in mine with it fitted but it sounds nice and has a nice tone to it but I did think it would be a bit noisier when revved, better performance though but saying that the 1850 system I took off had more holes in it than a string vest so that sounded nice too

My Rimmers system doesn't sound properly good till over 4500rpm, then it howls like a banshee, very satisfying! With my Vauxhall engine's rev limiter coming in at 7k, I actually have a useable "on song" rev band!

I have a "jigsaw" system ready to try and fit to my Sprint.
It looks very well made to me. The bends all have a proper radius not squashed like some and the metal and weld quality looks very good.
I haven't tried to fit it yet, but the over axle pipe will still need to exit the axle tunnel directly in line with the trailing arm bracket on the axle if there is to be a straight run for the back box to the back of the car. This is the main problem with the Rimmers sports system that I currently run with. There is not space for the pipe and the axle bracket at this point when the suspension is compressed, so it bangs and scrapes over bumps. This means the back box goes through hanger bobbins like they are going out of fashion. The standard twin tail pipe goes overs the axle further in board where there is only the axle tube to get in the way and then flicks across to the near side to avoid the tank well in the boot floor.
Bare in mind, that this system is also larger bore than the Rimmers one and comes with a larger down pipe for the Sprint.

I have a jigsaw system on my sprint. Mark borrowed my car for a week and took it down to Phoenix for them to make the system that was about 8 yrs ago now The system fits very well, nice and tight to the floor and never knocks. It's really quiet as well. it will need the down pipe as well as its slightly bigger bore

As it should, when they have the car to tailor it to. It would be interesting to hear from someone who has fitted an 'off the shelf' copy of the 'prototype' to hear their experiences...

The 1850 has the transverse box and presumably the brackets, why would I need to install brackets? likewise the back box? I may go and see Phoenix, I'm just up the road in Somerset. Thanks all for the coments.

Yes George the transverse box mounting brackets on an 1850HL may be the same as a Sprint?

On the back you will be able to swap the bracket for a Sprint item. (Sprints have a two hook bracket.)
