New Replacement Indicator Stalk

#1 Post by Ictoan »

I am having problems with the indicator stalk on my Sprint. This was a s/h replacement so I have been searching to try and find a new one, rather than s/h.

Has anyone any experience of the following:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lucas-indicat ... SwajVUL~tY

or Rimmers which says it is for an 1850 but looks the same to me.

http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-218498

Thanks,
Tim

Mmm? Confused (easy done). Granted, the e-bay one is upside down, but would it not still work correctly when fitted to a rhd (or would it not fit?), ie lift up to indicate left and pull down to indicate right, though contrary to the markings?

Has anybody tried them?

Thanks,
Tim

Thanks Tonyg, hopefully that 'someone' will be along shortly to confirm.

Going back to my other option, the Rimmers one for an 1850, can anyone confirm if there is a difference between the Sprint & 1850 stalks?

Thanks,
Tim

Same stalk for 1500 hl/1850/sprint :) i cannot see the point of fitting a Lhd drive stalk for £65 when Rimmers do the correct Rhd one for £60 :) ( there was a post recently on here where a member bought one of these Lhd stalks and had to send it back ).

I've wanted one of those LHD ones for a while, as I've got my set reversed to be like the modern cars - stops me wiping the windows every time I have to turn left and having to turn right every time it starts raining. Only problem was I had to extend one of the wires over the column and bend one of the arms a bit. So I'm all upside-down, symbolically speaking.

I've new standard one in a box in the boot I'm going to use for the column rebuild (whenever), but that'll have them wrong as well.

Aren't there any on eBay at the moment? Usually a lot less than that, I thought.

The 16v Slant 4 engine is more fun than the 3.5 V8, because you mostly drive it on the upslope of the torque curve.

B&Y 73 Dolomite Sprint UVB 274M (kids!)

Now that it is confirmed that the same stalk does the 1850 and Sprint, the Rimmer one would be the preferred choice, though there is no indication of the manufacturer, but maybe I'm getting a bit fussy  .

I could only find the one I linked to on e-bay.

Thanks again,

:bluewave:
I'm glad to see someone else has successfully moved the stalk to the other side, and why not?
Originality is ok but practicality wins every time for me and putting the wipers on part way round roundabouts etc just adds to people's belief that senility is setting in!
Which wire and which arms did you have to adjust?

I've looked at Lucas stalks from a Mini and a Land Rover on E-buy which look exactly the same but are only £15 or £25, the block connector is different but if all it takes is to change them over, why not?
Lucas switch = Lucas switch ??
Anybody else tried this?

Apologies, I meant RHD ones on eBay.

I'd have to check, but I have it in mind I paid under £30, and I thought I'd seen them for less than £50 fairly recently. But I could be mistaken.

Oddly, despite having done it, I really can see why not. And I do like that it's such an easy swap, so I can put it back "right" if necessary.

The reason why not, for me, is that I do believe having the indicators on the right hand side of the column, and wipers on the left, is the correct way around for a RHD car; and indicators on the left is correct for LHD.

But, as you say, practicality has to win in something like this. And if I'm going to drive the Doly and cars to the modern standard pattern, in rotation, I need them to be as much the same as possible. So, wrong or not, it's just better for me to do it. It's a pain. But, "Life is pain: anyone who says differently is selling something."

The reason for newer RHD cars having the same indicator & wiper stalk postitons as LHD cars is because it saves having to make different parts for LHD & RHD cars which in turn saves money.

Oddly I prefer the indicator on the right in a manual car.

If only they decided the other way for all vehicles.
