Better use for diet coke....

Having seen a couple of u-tube vids of hungarian dudes using coke to get rust off some lada bumper
I thought what the heck - give it a try.

I was left a bottle of diet muck (poison it is...) after a recent party. So having just got hold of a Sprint clutch
hose attached to a master and its reservoir with predictably rusty unions that wouldn't budge without shearing the pipe
as we've all done before I dunked them in a dish of said "beverage".

A bit of fizzing and after 5 minutes one could see evidence of the rust actually dissolving....
Am I imagining this I think?

Nope - after half an hour a quick wire brush and a gentle twist of a spanner and the union on the reservoir pipe was
spinning like a good one. Later the free end of the clutch pipe was also free and turning well. I wire brushed gently and the pipe itself started to show signs of being made of steel, rather than dirt.
I left the cylinder in overnight and the following morning the most seized of the unions......came undone.
Out of the cylinder and spinning nicely on the pipe.

I'm well chuffed. This is as good a result as Ive had with Bilt Hamber Deox and Plus gas and far cheaper.

Who knows what it does to your innards but I'm going to be using it in far more scenarios in future....

Seized head studs or seized piston rings would be the ultimate test....

The cheaper the stuff, the better is is for this purpose. Get down to your local Aldi or Lidl. It's also good for cleaning the bog.

That'll be the phosphoric acid then...

In my dim and distance past I used to work as the chemist on a phos acid plant. Nasty stuff burns like hell!!

But as you say jonners great for rust!!

Stick to the diet/sugar-free varieties to avoid the new sugar tax.
