Hi I am fitting a electric clock into my Dolomite 1300 1980. One of the wires out of the clock is to be connected for illumination. My plan is to splice into a wire on the side light circuit.
I see a bunch of wires under the dash on the nearside. I also see another bunch of wires under the dash at the off side.
These wires are various colours. Can anyone please point me in the direction of the correct wire to splice into?

Why not just splice into one of the illumination wires on one of the other dials?

Red with a white trace is the colour for dashboard lighting

Please don't splice unnecessarily. If your car is manual (surely is being 1300?) there will be a spare connector lurking near the bulkhead/top of the gearbox tunnel. Used to illuminate the shift panel on automatics. I probably have a spare of the mating connector and some wire. What is the connector on the back of the clock?

Hi the connection at the back of the clock was 2 black wires, one is for earth and the other is for connecting to the illumination feed. I have soldered and extended both wires. There was no connectors on them, I have spade connectors. I will look for the connector on the tunnel, is it under the carpet please? Thanks for your help.

Hi thanks guys. I ended up making a soldered connection to the red cable which runs to the bulb at the rear of the temperature/fuel gauge as suggested. Clock working fine now with illumination.
