Are all 1300 Dolomites fitted with the inertia type of starter motor rather than the 1850 / Sprint pre-engaged variety ?

If so; looking at piccys of the starter, there doesn't seem to be any facility for the connection of the ballasted ignition connection. Does that mean that the 1300s never had ballasted ignition systems ?

Its all on the separate solenoid (I know early spitfires etc had no ballast, later ones did and a "matching" solenoid)

The Toledo had a ballast resistor mounted traditionally by the coil. When the Dolomite 1300 came out it had a resistor wire built into the wiring as the rest of the range so that was no longer required. The supply to the coil +ve was therefore a ballasted white and yellow wire and a link wire was then connected to the solenoid to give 12v when cranking only.

On my 1300 which was made in May 1980 and registered in 1982 this wire produces full voltage and is not ballasted, which I found last year when it cooked a correct spec ballasted coil from Rimmers i.e. 6v which was the start of all my woes. Check this output before you buy a coil. Speculation ranges from the ballast resistor wire has failed (in that case would there be any current at all) to the last cars were not fitted with a ballast wire, but the spec was not changed to inform.
