Early v Late SPRINT cylinder heads - differences ??

#1 Post by simonhorton »

I have a few Sprint cylinder heads

What are the visual differences between the two ?

I know late heads have a number "2" stamped on them

Many thanks

Very early ones had shallower spring seats, which when used with uprated camshafts wrecked the head due to spring coilbound problems.
I also think the waterways were enlarged but I am not sure.

I have put both heads side by side

The only difference visually is the extra casting above the exhaust ports on the later ( number 2 casting number )

Have a look at my thread about early vs late heads, I think there's a link to Mikes thread as well.

I have had a problems with the spring seats on my early one being too high, they really need to be machined down but as I now have a late one I'm just going to use that.
