I have acquired a triumph stag MKII but the under dash wiring is not in a good condition, I am trying to wire up an 8 cylinder RVC rev counter but on connecting the wiring and turning on the ignition the rev counter goes to the maximum rev reading. I am connecting a 12v source (green wire) an earth (black wire) but I cannot find the feed from the coil (white grey), I am therefore taking a wire from the coil negative to the rev counter, will this wiring set up cause the problem I describe, is there a better way to wire it up. I have also fitted an Accuspark electronic ignition system and Lucas high output coil. The car starts and runs without any problem.

I can't help with your rev counter problem, but measure the resistance of your coil with a meter, it must be at least 1.4 ohms for an Accuspark, that's taken from their website.

I've moved the thread here because it isn't Dolomite related. I've also added "Stag" to the thread title.

Yes and Yes. Some electronic ignitions do flatten the signal and cause bad readings. But most of the time this occurs at the rvi models. You can try to have only the actual coil +feed on the coil and other electronics a bit further away just to take some "dampers" away. But in your case i think the rev is faulty. You can try to make a pick up coil around the HT lead from the coil to dizzy. Sometimes this will generate just enough induction to have it working without any interference of coil connections and or electronic ignitions.
