What can you knowledgeable people tell me about this? I.e. what isn't original? It's a '66 MK2. It has a fibreglass Le Mans replica bonnet and a MK3 front bumper. Other than that I'm unsure what has been changed (ignore the wheels - i have the originals to go on).
Also any ideas on a value?

Seats are spitfire 1500 (late) rear number plate lamp is late mk3 spitfire...
I think we can safely say this is a car where originality will not be a strong point!


As to value, that will depend largely on structure and serviceability of the car....

Also looks to have mk4 or 1500 door internals and handles too.

I'll have the seats if you dont want them...

Interesting. Originality isn't something to bother me but it obviously affects value.
Structurely it's great except the bootlid. It needs a good wire brush and waxoyling underneath but no welding i can see. It has been dry stored since '92.

I think that bootlid requires a new section welding in, and they are very hard to find in good condition.

The early spits are going up in value, but it ideally needs a few bits changing to achieve a good value. That gaudy dash won't help! and the front bumper is from a MK3, and sadly has been drilled for the spotlamps. That raises questions when linked to the late mk3 number plate lamp.
I suspect the doors may be late from a mkiv/1500, outer handles will show if that is the case.
Are the hoodsticks and hood with the car (not a frame, it is a slot in hoop)

What engine is fitted? should be 1147, 6 port head with a 4>2>1 tubular manifold.

The engine is as you suggest. It did have a single weber but now it's on twin HS2s. It has an oil cooler too along with other nifty gadgets.
I've ditched the bumper today, it looks so much better without it.
I will post some more pictures of it shortly.

Can we see some side views? Early mkIIs had "twist" door handles like a mkI Mini, later mkIIs had the push button handles similar to a Dolomite.
Your 66 car is on the cusp of what is correct, but if it has recessed handles, they are mkIV/1500 and definitely wrong!
I restored a mkII for a customer back in the 80s and still have some photos of it, if I can scan them, i'll put them up for you for reference, the car was a C or D reg and was 100% original.
All the other things noted as unoriginal above are indeed unoriginal. The dash should be black "crackle finish" and internal door handles same as early Herald, just a chrome pointy crescent. Back bumpers would have been low mounted quarter bumpers, some had optional overriders fitted same as mkI GT6. I may have a pair of these about somewhere - have to check!

It sounds like it has later doors then due to the style of handle. They're the pull type if i remember correctly. It's certainly a mismatch but i like it, although it wont be a keeper.
