...it's not always necessary to replace your chassis leg and floor pan, sometimes just a patch or two will do!

And there I was looking at a couple of small paint bubbles on my boot edge with dismay today!

Is that the new project you bought recently? Did you notice the load you were towing getting lighter the further you travelled?

The second photo' is misleading; all the lose flakes of rust are not sitting in the car, they are actually on the tarmac beneath it.
I hope no-one chastises me for having made the decision to scrap this car!

I've never seen one that rusty. Clearly only the best Italian steel used for that one.

It was a '76 1500HL, so by rights it should have been too early for european steel. Shockingly, it was ziebarted too. All that was holding the passenger footwell in shape was the bitumen pad fixed to the top side. It stood in a field for a number of years though; the boot floor is as bad, the rear subframe mounts had disappeared completely and it was hanging free; the fronts are like a lose tooth, so it wouldn't have been long until the lump dropped to the ground. Cills and door frame bottoms are similarly afflicted.

Oh, so that's what those pads are for, and I thought they were for soundproofing!

Was the field in the sea?

It's pictures like these that rub it in (for me) about the passage of time.
1976 still feels so crystal clear in my mind. I remember admiring new Triumphs in 1976 and can envisage how pristine this car would have looked. Quite sobering really. Was the long hot summer that long ago? Minister of Drought and all that?

Could any of this excessive corrosion have been caused by incorrect fitting of the lower steering column bush?
