Front Bumper positions...

I have had a new inner front panel put in and when I offered up the front bumper recently, the weld studs on the brkts didn’t line up with the holes so I’m not convinced the holes are in the correct place!

Where the front bumper mounting irons poke through the rectangular slots in the front valance, could someone please measure its position relative to the slot it pokes through side to side, say from the inner right hand side of the slot i.e. the side closest to the centre line of the car?

Rather than drill the car, I’m going to replace the studs on the brkts (grind one off and redrill and weld another in) as the nearside brkt needs cutting and shutting as the body has been modified to take the larger radiator and this cuts into the space for the brkt as the picture below shows.

As the brkt is being on the nearside, I’m going to put a tow strap through here, so I’ll design a new brkt and get it fabricated with bigger bolts and come up with some sort of load spreading plate as that area looks very flimsy to me!

I know on Ken Clarke's Racers the tow strap is here but I don't know if he's strengthened here at all...I forgot to look the last time I saw them!

Cheers!

Well the inner holes are on the right spot through the reinforcement bracket. Then it must be the outer holes what are wrong. The brackets are handed. You do not have to grind off the the studs because they are not welded but pushed in. Push out, redrill and re use stud.

Good advice as ever Jeroen, cheers!

Thinking of putting a 3/8" bolt through here to tie two brkts together...think it should be ok as it is well forward of the subframe mtg and there are holes already in this area for the loom clips so kinda know it's not going to be a big stress raiser...just wish I'd spotted it when it was getting fabricated last year!
