Fuel line

Hi my Dolomite 1300, 1980 was booked in for a MOT but that morning I noticed a fuel leak.
With my limited vision I could not see where it was leaking so I asked my wife to mention it to the garage when she got there.
When I got the car back they had removed the filter I had in place before the fuel pump and the piping there too. They had connected one piece rubber piping from the pump to the pipe that runs underneath the car.
Since then I have noticed fuel coming out of the bolt at the top of the fuel pump when the car is facing downhill. The car is also difficult to start when she is facing uphill. I presume that this is because the fuel is draining back to the tank.
Any advice is appreciated.

If you still have one of the original design of petrol pump it will have a built in filter on the top of the pump. It requires the central screw to be removed which then allows the top cover to be lifted off. The garage may have had this off to check / clean the filter or may have just turned the top around slightly to align it up better with the fixed pipework. Having done this it looks as if they have not made a good seal again.

Hi Lawrence, I reckon the garage have simple cured one problem ( a fuel leak ) and replaced it with another !
O.K. there was probably a leak from the fuel filter or its fuel pipes but I reckon what they have done is get rid of the leaky filter and have replaced the proper 5/16 in i.d pipe ( on my 1850 - the 1300 may be different ) with the nearest metric equivalent that they had off the shelf -probably 10mm - and just tried to crimp it tight by overtightening the Jubilee clip. So when the car faces down hill, the inlet pipe to the pump is now leaking over the top of the fuel pump; and when it facing up hill there is now an air leak on the fuel pump suction side and it sucks air rather than fuel; so difficult starting is the result. I'm a great fan of inlet fuel filters, so I'd re-instate that with the correct fuel hose and clips.
HTH,
Tony.

Hi thanks David for the offer of help.
I took the top of the fuel filter off and the mesh filter was distorted along with the seal. I staightened out the filter and it is not leaking.
I got petroflex 8mm hose and a GFE7004 filter as advised by Tony. A 30mm hose and a 15mm hose.
The only problem that I had was one of the ends of the hoses came off and I had a bit of difficulty getting it back on.
In place now and no leaks so will keep an eye on it. Thanks for your help.
