gaz shocks/front sprints

HI All,
last year I fitted Gaz shocks and uprated std height springs to the rear with no problem.
These are the single adjuster/damping type not the fully adjustable type.
No problems at all with rear.
Ok I have just started removing the front shocks to do the same job.
OK my problem is that the new springs, even the old springs do not fit over shoulder
on new gaz shock So gut feeling been sold wrong shocks.
Any thoughts guys.
Gary.

On the adjustable platform type like mine, there are 2 platforms to choose from, one for std springs and other for smaller id springs. Maybe they offer 2 fixed platform types too? Either way they dont sound right.

Hmmm, sadly I have experienced a few issues with Gaz stuff over the years. When I used to race I tried to get technical info from them and was astounded by some of the responses I got. Because of that I tend to avoid them now if I can. It does sound like there are issues and it's worth checking with the supplier. Posting pics up may also help people identify the specific problem/ compare to what they have.

My Gaz fully adjustable shocks weren't like yours - I had four spring seat platfroms, two for the front and two for the back, are you suggesting that your's came with eight spring seat platfroms - four spring seats for the fronts - a pair (2 x platforms seats) for std springs and another pair for smaller id springs.

Gary

Does sound like you have been supplied with the wrong front set - did you buy them as full set (4 x shocks) or single pairs (front & rears) part No. for the fronts are GDA4012GAZ - could you check the part No.s

Hi Tony,
No mate I bought rear pair last year and decided to buy fronts last month.
The annoying thing is I can't place my hand on the Rimmer's invoice.
They came in a box wrapped up in bubble wrap and the only number
I can find a number on the shock it is, gs1 2266 b14 r12 pity its a Sunday as I would have
called them.
In fact I'm going to find the other shock and see if that is the same.
Keep talking guys and thank you.

From the attached link https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j ... Nc-IdGizVA it looks like Rimmers have sent you the correct ones with that part No. you have supplied and I have looked on Gaz web site and again the part No. is correct.

Hi All,
Thank you all for finding cross ref part number.
I will speak to Rimmers tomorrow as the only way to get those springs to go
over that shoulder on the shock would be to grind the inside of the spring which
I do not really want to do.
One thing that has puzzled me is that all pictures on Rimmers parts online show black bushes and I have white.
Maybe a red herring and the colour means sod all but I wonder if the final
part of the number is different.
Anyway maybe the shoulder on the shock is oversize not machined to correct diameter.
Any other thoughts guy please say but I will be making calls tomorrow morning at 0900 am LOL.
cheers gary.

Hi All,
Just thought I bring you up to speed.
Spoken to both Company's this morning GAZ and Rimmer's and found both really helpful.
Gaz have taken the lead and are picking up shocks today and will machine shoulder from 85.67 to 84mm
and get them re anodised and returned to me ASAP. So that looks very positive from them.
Rimmers have yet to call me back to find out if all their other stock are the same and springs do not fit.
I was wrong about colour of bushes as I was having a blond moment and was looking at travel/dirt bushes on
shock shaft.
One test I did this morning that proved a point, was old spring also did not fit new shock.
So My message is don't buy yet till problem has been resolved.
Gary.

No mine came with 4 platforms but I believe you can order them with different platforms to suit the spring you intend to use.

Hi All,
yes I bought these as a pair with uprated springs std height last month.
part no was GDA4012gaz No on shock gs1 2266 b14 r12.
Does seem funny that GAZ are happy to sort out without dealing with Rimmers.
But as long as I get them back ASAP I will not complain .
cheers gary .

HI All,
Well an interesting week.
Gaz picked up shocks on Monday and phoned me on Tuesday to say they had received them.
They machined the shoulder down from 85.67 to 84.00mm
They then re anodised the shocks and I got them back on Thursday where they are all together
on the car. Job done and thanks to Andy for sorting it out pronto.
Well ---mers , after talking to Chris (nice guy) on Monday he said that the technical guy would contact me
ASAP to tell me if other springs and shocks on there shelf were the same.
The reason I wanted this call, was perhaps I had a odd pair and it would be quicker to get another set sent.
Well by Wednesday I had no call so I phoned Chris and told him that I was disappointed in the response.
He said he would chase it up. Well I did get a call and was told all the shocks are the same and the springs do not fit.
He said that in some cases it only takes a file to make the inside of the spring a bit bigger.
I said look mate the shoulder on the shock is 1.67mm to large and why would you start filing a spring out and creating work.
Anyway they said there stock will have to go back to GAZ.
So my message is DON'T buy till you have been told they have been re machined.
Cheers gary
