Cigarette Lighter/Clock

The Clock and Cigarette lighter are not working (I realise they are wired together according to the wiring diagram). I think the problem is the lack of power to the lighter. What I cannot work out is where the problem is. Below is a picture of the lighter. You will see that one of the purple wires to/from the lighter is not connected to anything, so obviously part of the problem, but is this the connection that goes on to the clock or is it the power in to the lighter? And where/what should it be connected to? I need the lighter powered to run a poti from and it would be convenient to have the clock working.

Any thoughts?

The light on the lighter works.

Without being potentially insulting (no electrical pun intended!) I'm assuming the fuse is good, but do other things hanging off that circuit work, boot lamp, hazards, horn etc?

That purple wire going nowhere off the cigarette lighter +12v on my Sprint heads up to the clock...

No insult taken. The chances are that I will have missed something pretty obvious.

Yes the horn and interior light are both working, just double checked before typing this. I thought the loose wire would be the feed to the clock and will investigate that further, but there appears to be no power to the purple wire at all, I have had a circuit tester onto it.

Thanks,
Tim

Should the purple wire be longer? I cannot easily see another end to connect to.

The clock used to work so I suspect I have disturbed something previously when wiring in a tripmeter.

Thanks,
Tim

Im pretty sure that purple wire should be much longer than it is if it's from the lighter to the clock and should have a connector on the end, whats the back of the clock looking like ? is there a remainder of any wire on it , it wont be to hard to splilce in another bit of wire to connect to the clock :)

Getting there I think.

The wires from the back of the clock go into the loom. Therefore, the loose wire is the power in to the lighter and then on to the clock via the loom.

I suspect the purple wire should be connected to the connector which is in the picture above mid-right with the red wire coming in from the right and a brown cable coming out to the left and up which I think is for the heater fan control.

Load aside, is there any problem with me connecting the cigar lighter, heater fan control and a trip meter to the connector? I am assuming that the lighter and fan were supposed to be connected to it anyway so the only addition is the trip which I am guessing is a relatively low load?

Thanks,
Tim
