Tight fitting brake drum

Was fitting my brake drums the other day and one side went on really easily but the other seems to be very tight on the hub flange, to the point where it won't actually sit flush without rocking slightly because it won't go fully on. Now I could hammer the thing on I'm sure but that's surely going to make it very difficult to get off in the future.
The drum I fitted was a new one but I tried an old one but this had the same issue. I also tried the drum on another half shaft/hub assembly which I had in the shed and it went on fine. The hub flange seems to be flat and true as it can be. If I measure the hub it seems to be very close in size to the hole in the brake drum. I think the affected side is one of the halfshaft/hub assemblies I replaced as previously I had odd sized studs on each side. I figured it was easier to replace the whole assembly rather than mess around getting the hub off.
As I say I'm reluctant to knock the drum on but wondered if anyone else has had a similar problem?
