Gudgeon - an interesting word.
From Google it apopears to have originated from the French 'Goujon' but I'm at a loss to fathom how that came to mean the small end pin thingy in an engine.
Anyone?

Gudgeon came from gudgeon which came from gudgeon! Multiple meanings in french, went fishy in the middle.
