Has anyone found a suitable replacement for the rivet which attaches the front quarter light glass to the front?
If you are going to change the quarter light seal this need to be removed.
Any suggestions?

There's a chap who restores these for MG's and other cars, they are very similar. I cannot recall his details but I may have some somewhere.

Thanks Mike,
I have just changed the glass is a quarter light. the car I am presently rebuilding had a bent quarter light frame. You can buy new quarter light assemblies from Rimmer, but they have clear glass. As I wanted sundym I decided to change the glass. I could not get the glass out of the new frame, so resorted to breaking it. The original seal fell apart, so that too had to be replaced.
You can buy neoprene rubber at various sizes. I was not sure what size so got 1.5mm and 2mm thickness. 2mm was too thick, but the 1.5mm did the trick. It took quite a bit of pushing and lubrication to persuade the glass to go in, but it did and it shows no sign of wanting to come put again.
When I restored EFR I too used NOS quarter light seals and put them into a good pair of quarter light frames with the original glass. A good friend, who a very skilled engineer and well known to the North West Dolomite group made new rivets for me from stainless steel. They were in two parts top and bottom which screwed together and I 'glued' them together with loctite.
Mark, if you can find details of the MG man I would most grateful for the information.

Genius link!
My N/S quarterlight glass drops out of the frame if the quarterlight is opened - seems like you can get proper U-profile seals for the MGB to clamp the glass into the frame.
Anyone tried using these for a Dolly? I may give item 33 a go as it looks to be a similar shape.
Mark

Markas,
You don't need to buy the MG glazing strip. All you need is 1.5mm neoprene rubber, but it needs to be 3 inches wide.
