Indicator live feed - alternative

The indicators on my 1300 Dolomite died today. It turns out that I have an electronic flasher unit but unfortunately no live feed, if I Nick the live from the hazard flasher the indicators work fine as you would expect. I have tried to feel the back of the hazard switch but can't feel anything wrong. This leaves me with two options:
1, do it properly by stripping out the entire dash and finding out what's wrong.
2, use an alternative live feed with a suitable fuse inline (3A?)

At the moment I have a long list of jobs so very tempted to do option 2 and then sort properly at a later date when I have more time.

Does anyone have any idea what the issue may be? I can't see an issue with option two except that I can't understand why it was fed through the hazard switch in the first place, was there special reason for this?

No chance it's a fuse? You'd be surprised how much of a car works with one or both of the fuses gone. The indicator will be ignition switched, hazards on permanent live. I can dig out a wiring diagram tomorrow and see where it's fed from for you. Also, sometimes the hazard switch can cause indicator problems, give it a bit of a waggle.

Both fuses are fine and I have judiciously waggled the hazard but it could still be that. The odd thing about it is that for a couple of days the right indicator has been going double speed as though a bulb has blown but it hasn't. Left has been fine all along. Related? I can't see how it can be but even after decades of old car ownership I am finding the Triumph 'works yesterday and tomorrow but not today' electrics entertaining. Thankfully it's all been easy and relatively cheap fixes so far.

Check the connections of the indicator stalk switch itself and the contacts within the indicator switch. Its a quick job by removing the steering column cowl. On mine the wire had broken off the contact so I had to solder it back on to the contact within the switch mechanism. I think it was a purple wire but can't remember for sure now, it was a couple of years ago.

Indicators can be amusing, a poor earth on my rear n/s indicator causes both front indicators to flash and the rear o/s when indicating right but only causes the n/s front to flash when indicating to turn left. If I slap the rear n/s indicator it all starts working correctly again.

Its just a dirty contact on your hazard switch. If you pull it in and out a few times and wiggle it in rotation it may well come back.
Indicators are also fed from the ignition fed fuse and fused side so if your wipers and screen wash are also dodgey then give the fuse contacts
a quick clean.

Common fault and usually easilly fixed.

All sorted, it was indeed a dodgy connection. Just took a bit of fiddling about. Found a couple of other little issues as well that can be sorted later today and save hassle down the line.
