I was doing a little bit of spannering before dark, fitting the dashboard to the car. The old one was very scruffy with lots of splits in it, so I rescued the dashboard from the 1850 that I had to break.

The bolts all went in fine, but when I came to do the screws along the top of the dashboard the screwholes on the metal plates attached to the dash didn't quite line up with the holes on the shell - they were about 1/4" over to the right. It got a bit too dark to fiddle with it so I left it for tomorrow, but it's a bit annoying. The old dash did fit properly as I'd had it in the car a couple of times to test.

Has anyone come across this issue before? Any thoughts about how I might get it to fit a bit better?

The brackets underneath, that bolt to the side panels, have slots in them. You may be able to adjust it with those.

I had a thought at lunchtime. The only other place the dash is "fixed" to the car apart from the bolts and the screws is at the heater, where the controls slot through. Since only the very end of the controls pokes through the dash it wouldn't take much accidental bending of the arms to misalign it. I'll check it next time I get down to the garage in daylight, which may well by May, the way things are going...

Mart was right, of course. I'd not noticed the slots before - they were centred on the old dash so I guess they weren't really visible. Thanks!
