1500 head modifications

How can I tell if a head that I have has been skimmed beyond reason? I'm planning on using it on a fast balanced 1500 engine I'm building.
What do people think about the extra thrust washers in the rear main cap? Are there any other modifications that you would suggest for a fast and long lived engine; other than choosing a different engine?

Extra thrust is good to help cope with a tougher clutch.

Balance the bottom end.

Use decent oil (I like millers CSS 20/60 especially on the 1500)
Fit a thermostatic oil cooled.

If that is my old fast road head, it was 10 and a bit CR, and ran fine on super unleaded. With a std distributor using vac advance. Even pretty economical. It was a ksc/for head, so known providence.

It is your head clifty. I'm finally about to put it on top of a very clean and balanced bottom end with a fast Newman cam.
