Heya everyone!

I could do with getting the spindles on my carburettors sorted, they are letting a bit of air in. I spoke to Southern carburettors under the advice of WINS international, and they quoted me a 5-10 working day wait at best from arrival of the carbs. This is going to be tricky for me with the triumph as a daily runner, so does anyone have any advice, or other places I could get the work done? Many thanks!!

Why not acquire a spare pair of carbs to use whilst your's are being worked on?

I have waxstat and non waxstat 1850 SU carbs available...

Or buy a pair of spindles and butterflies (optional) and DIY. Very simple job once the carbs are off. As in 10 mins a carb.....

If you just fit new spindles that makes the leak 90+% better. Fitting the bushes is a nightmare. One reconditioner reckons you are better off not fitting them because it is so tricky to get the bushes aligned.
I have done many sets of carbs over the years, and the running issues have almost always gone and the new spindles feel good.
The exception is when the carb bodies have been severely ovalled because of the earlier type of spring return on the carbs (ie the normal springs that pull the spindles, as opposed to the rater type circular springs around the spindles. If you have the earlier type, best to swap to later type bodies!

Pretty much agree with Clive except to say I've yet to see a pair of the later type that leak!

Well maybe my spit ones do as it seems reluctant to drop to a lower idle speed lately...

Anyway on a 75 car I suspect you have the early sideways pulling springs, which are indeed much better replaced with the later body type.

These leak after about 50k miles up.

Well thats great! I will definitely give them a go then, and see if I can get hold of some throttle spindles. As for the throttle return springs, they're this type:

Just get them through Burlen, they'll have everything you need.

I would grab a pair of carbs off Alun, ideally the later type with concentric springs. Then rebuild those as required, and swap over with yours. Simple solution!
