Oil filter O ring

Just discovered mine has distorted. Causing a small but consistent drip in use.
When I fitted the engine there were 2 fitted, again causing a leak, but I did wonder if that was a bodge to help seal the filter bowl.

So a couple of Q's. Is this a known issue, or have I done something wrong? Do all filters come with an O ring? And are they available separately?

Bit of a minor panic, car is still being prepped for RBRR....

yes they are needed, just one in the block where the steel filter housing fits. Not sure about being available separate though. if theres debris in the block where the seal fits it could pull up uneven and cause a problem, other than the the housing itself could be warped, but ive never seen it myself.

Rimmers sell them along with the 'O' ring required for the spin-on conversion.

You should get one with a new oil filter. Often the old one is reluctant to come out after being wedged into a tight groove...

I use a needle to spear the old seal and then tease it out. Has to be done...but on a few occasions in the past I just reused the old one if it looked good by leaving it in place with no issues, but don't tell anyone...its not recommended.
