Inhibitor Switch

My auto inhibitor switch failed and one of the previous owners shorted it out.

This gave me a fright when I accidentally started the car in drive and shot off down the road.

I have replaced the switch but the connector shrouds have gone brittle (as has the wiring). I replaced them but, as the photo shows, the switch is directly above the exhaust and I was wondering if there is a heat problem. Should there be a heat screen above the exhaust?

Also I have noticed that the tunnel uses some sort of sealant as well as the rubber strip. Any advice on what type to use would be appreciated.

There should indeed be a heat shield that IIRC attaches to the auto box sump above the down pipe. Its almost always missing
these days. I replaced the last one I did with a Rover SD1 item from JR Wadhams which comes with a built in loom. I modified the loom
to suit the dolomite and it worked fine.

I then heat wrapped the downpipe with that asbestos bandage stuff. Car hasnt been back so I assume it worked ok...
