Where do I get a blank VIN/ID plate from

Hello to you all...

The VIN/ID plate that lives (lived!) in my Toledo's engine bay was hanging off so I rescued it and kept it in a safe place so it could be re-attached at a later date.

I kept it so safe that it got thrown away!!!

Now I need to try and source a blank plate and get the relevant information stamped out on it.

Can anyone help me in my pursuit of getting this sorted?!

Many thanks to you all in advance.

There is this website at fivestarclassics.com that do them, but I'm sure someone will comealong with other suggestions.

Has anyone got a picture of their Toledo VIN/ID plate that they'd be kind enough to post on here please...?!

Also, how on Earth do I find out the COMM' No. as I don't know if I have that information anywhere...?!?!?!

I am so angry about this being discarded even though it was an accident!

Thanks to you all for your help so far.

Before I found the original one, in a safe place, I bought a new one off of eBay and a set of stamps. The commission number is, from memory, on your V5. The paint and trim codes are whatever colour it's going to stay. If you search on Google for colour and trim codes they'll be available, otherwise, ask somebody on here as I'm sure they'll have it listed.

Your Comm number should be on the V5 (as chassis or frame number) will begin with ADF or ADK followed by 4 or 5 numbers and ending in DL
When you stamp them in, there should be a small (1 figure width) gap between the the first three letters and the first number and a large gap (up to 1") between the last number and the DL
If as I suspect, your car is Carmine red the colour code is 82. Trim choices with Carmine will be Black (code 11) Grey (code 78) or new Tan (code 33)
Note, when fitting the plate, it goes on with the numbers upside down so that it can be read by leaning over the n/s wing!

And have a few alcoholic drinks before stamping the digits to have the original look.

Carmine never came out of the factory with black trim. Other options were chestnut or beige.

I had some plates printed a while ago and have a few left. They are exactly the same as type 'T011' on the five star classics website, I'll send you one for £7.50 inclusive of postage

Not on a Toledo mate, Chestnut and Beige are cloth trim colours. Black was offered on any exterior colour and you could even have Red trim with Carmine according to the brochure that came with my (Carmine/Grey) car - but i've never seen one and red is not listed as a choice in my 73 Toledo parts list, only Black, Grey, Shadow Blue (forgot that one but very unlikely with Carmine) and New Tan! The MOST common choice is new Tan. Carpet colours followed trim except for Grey trimmed cars which have Black carpets.

Ah, Toledo, yes. I stand (well sit, actually) corrected.

Alun, do you have any plates for a Sprint? That would be style T005 on that website?

I've seen them both ways up and reckon it depended upon the mood of the guy on the production line that day!

Who wrote that then; I can't see the original?

The plates I have are copied from the plates on my Sprints. I have never seen a Sprint (or for that matter any Dolomite) chassis plate actually state the model on it; every pre Sept '79 Sprint I own has type 'T011'.

Hope mine isn't a fake then?!

(Yes it is right way around on the car, didn't want you all to get stiff necks!)

Alun, that was me. Must learn how to use the quote code properly!

I can't tell whether or not my plate refers to a Sprint or not - some over enthusiastic polishing by a PO has removed most of the black paint/ink. Happy to go with T011 style. Can you add one to my parcel when the time comes?

OK, now I've seen one; curious!

I've just looked out some plates I have here in the house VA15562 had 'Dolomite Sprint' on it, but both earlier and later cars were silent...
