Your thoughts and/or alternatives please gentleman.

I could really do with a pair of roof bars but I don't like the way they sit on the gutters and I'm worried that two of the four doors will rub the brackets when fitted. My thought, seeing as though the roof lining will be coming out soon for either repair or replacement plus to weld a few bits at the rear of the roof panel, is to bend a couple of 100mm strips to the same profile as the roof, bond them to the inside and put m6 rivnuts in them. When not in use some small 6mm plugs of a chosen colour which will keep the water out. Some simple stainless steel roof bars will be simple and clean and will stop me ripping holes in the lining with pieces of timber inside. That's the trouble using a classic as a daily driver.

I'd get a towbar and a trailer, it's simpler! The bright gutter mouldings on my Sprint had crush damage from a previously fitted roofrack, so I can confirm that's not a good idea! And I am not at all sanguine about drilling the roof and giving water and rust an extra starting point!

I think, with your proposal, your load carrying capacity would be extremely limited before your roof tried to turn itself inside out, even if the mounts are on the stronger tightly radiused part of the roof...in addition to what Steve has said above.

Are there any roof bars that fit without fouling the doors? My Thule set rub on the door tops.

I think I have seen a Dolly with a luggage rack on the boot...any good? It would mean you could access the inside to control rust
