After looking for a dolomite for quite a long time I have finally been able to acquire VVJ a faded orange 1500HL. Looking forward to getting her home and sorting her out

That looks like it will come up well with a machine polish!
Keep us updated Joe, I'm busy restocking the club spares so if theres anything you need then give the club spares line a call.

Yes looking forward to picking her up next Saturday. I did put a picture up with the first post but not sure if you can see it ? There's a little bit to be done but she's got an MoT till June so going to give her a good sevice then use and see what needs doing. The only thing I need to hunt out is what type of air filter does it need ? Are they wire mesh ones like on old landrovers or paper replacements ? Thanks Joe

Welcome to Dolomite ownership! You may only think you need one thing, but that's now it starts...

The air filters are the paper element type - GFE 1063. They are shared with Midget & Spitfire 1500s. I'm sure you're aware your 1500HL is on twin carbs so will need two.

Yer I'm sure there's going to be many bits that fall off and go wrong... same as my old Land Rover. Thanks will order some now.

Had VVJ out for first proper run today and come across a little problem. The accelerator pedal seems to be very stiff making it more into a on off button ? Do the carbs need a rebuild or is there another cure ? I've cleaned and lubricated the linkage around the carbs ? Thanks

Check the throttle pedal and pivot inside the car, make sure the carpet isn't fouling, check the cable is free to move within the outer sleeve.
If you need a new cable this one is recommended by Jeroen:

You have checked the whole linkage is free to move and returns OK?

Its a strange one. When the engine is off the throttle is free and moves very easily but when the engine is runnimg it seems to bind up ? Its very confusing.

Interesting, check the earth strap, there may be a bad connection. The accelerator cable will then act as the earth strap heating the cable and causing binding.

Undo the carbs from the linkage and see if you still get the problem.

Checked the earth strap and it all seems ok. I believe there is meant to be a small amount of oil inside the carbs to act as damping? How would I check the leave of this ?

On the top of the carb dashpot, the domed bit, there is a black plastic screw cap, remove it and fill up the chambers with 20/50 oil or dashpot oil if you have it..
That wouldn't cause the throttle stiffness though, they just lubricate the pistons which go up and down under vacuum controlling the fuelling.
