Is the Sprint auto box the same as used in the Stag, and if yes, is it the BW35 or BW65?

No straight answer to this....
Stag used the 35 to start with and then later moved to the 65. So you could find either.
Sprint only used the 65 and there were nowhere near the same number of Sprint autos as there were Stag autos.
However, a Stag 65 auto isn't identical to a Sprint 65 auto which in turn isn't identical to a Dolomite(1850) 65 auto. Whether the differences are material though is a mute point. For example I fitted a 65 auto from a 1850 Dolomite to my Sprint and it has been absolutely fine, even when driven hard. In fact with the torque of the Sprint, the auto version is a very pleasant drive.
There is more discussion of the differences between various BW65 auto 'boxes here:

The BW65s on the 1850 & Sprint are mechaincally identical (in terms of the gear ratios) but the hydrauilcs are different presumably to cope with the extra power of the Sprint engine. I'm sure Harvey our resident autobox guru will be along before too long to clarify this.

But the BW65 is used on the Stags (145 bhp) and Jaguars, so the Sprint engine is relatively puny.

My only contribution to this is that I bought a recon BW65 box from a stag owner many years ago but found that the rear extension was different to the sprint/1850 I also seem to remember that the bell housing was different too, so I sold it on to a stag owner.
