Sticking plaster repairs

It literally was today. Drove 2hrs back from Kent and all was fine until I stopped at services. Up to speed on the exit and no overdrive. Fuse and connections ok but the switch felt a bit different. No tape on board but my wife's handbag produced a plaster
. And away we went.....

Isn't the knob on upside down on the stick? Or am I having a senior or chemo moment...?

Looks ok to me. It's impossible to get the knob on upside down, if you want it as a useable gear stick anyway, but I suppose the locking collar could go the other way round but would look odd.

Can't beat roadside bodges, there is a certain sense of satisfaction knowing that if the car was 30 years newer and it broke you'd be on a tow truck! I still chuckle about the time I rang my father and said "Can you meet me at X roundabout with some side cutters, a wire coat hanger and a piece of string" and he said "yep, on my way" without even asking why.
I think everyone is used to my odd requests..

P.S. Made a throttle linkage as mine had actually vanished mid roundabout!

Ahhh, maybe it's me on the drugs then, not Jon. So you should lever the cap off from the front ?
Mine is not A1 so maybe it's better left as it is with the wrinkly bit at the back.
On another note I also managed to drive 15 miles without a throttle cable by using a bungee strap from the carbs through the quarter light. Lets just say it was full throttle or nothing but it got me home in the dark.

Ah my wife and I had this very same problem and the woman who must be obeyed pulled the throttle and I did the rest to get us home. However when we broke down a kind gent in a 4x4 stopped to offer help which was nice to experience.
