I was handed an envelope this weekend addressed to me, it was after a conversation with someone at a car show a couple of years ago and yes i have just received it now. Inside were was a Sprint Brochure a full sized Dolomite Sprint advert taken from a newspaper date 1975 and 3 photos of a dolomite sprint, i know nothing about the car other than presumably it is in export model and the pictures were taken sometime in the seventies, i believe the country is maybe Austrailia/New Zealand (but happy to be corrected), can anybody shed any light by looking at the number plate, most notable is also the chrome like edges to the front grill, were these standard export items ?
I have no other info but whoever it was thank you very much. I have had to scan them in so hopefully they are too bad.

I believe the registration plate is one of the sort that used to be issued to BFPO (British Forces Posted Overseas) to save them having to register the car in different countries as their postings changed.

British manufacturers used to do special deals for members of HM forces. It's possible that a special brochure was written, just for them!

Since the earliest years of the "war on terror" BFPO plates have been dropped as it highlighted the cars owners as targets. But they were still being used until the mid 80s.

German spec car it seems. Not a pic taken in Holland looking at the surroundings.

Hi Chris,

Not sure which market the front grill chrome bits were for but a couple of years ago there was a set for sale at the QE Country Park show in Horndean. Jon (Trackerjack) and I were both looking at them as they were very well done but couldn't make our minds up if they were original BL or not.

Rimmers are currently offering a RH grille section for sale of the same type as that in the photos, as German spec, part no. YKC1149. Possibly the car is BFPO registered in W. Germany?

Looking at the grille it is a German spec car. And for those who are still in doubt, the rear trim around the roof isn't chrome but rubber only fitted on German spec cars. So looking at the rear trim around roof it could be a German spec car.

Thanks for the response guys, so i think that is solved then, it is a German spec car, bought by a serving UK serviceman whilst being based in the country. The only question is really is what happened to it and did they bring it back with them, probably not of it's LHD model. Great snapshot into the past though.
