Sprint Subframe question

Can anyone enlighten me on the difference between Sprint and 1850 subframes
I know I can't put Sprint engine into an 1850 one but can I put 1850 engine in a Sprint subframe while I wait for Sprint engine to be built
Cheers Jed

My first instinct would be to say no, as there is an incompatibility in the engine mounts. But I think if you put the Sprint mounts onto the 1850 block (both bits each side) then it would work.

^ what he said!
The Sprint frame is an 1850 one with extra welded on brackets which counter the greater weight of the sprint head which cantilevers to one side. If as Steve says above, you use the sprint mounts and Sprint block brackets you'll get the 1850 engine to sit on the Sprint frame. It may look as if it is at a peculiar angle and whether the gearstick will still fit through the transmission tunnel hole and whether the bonnet will shut are all questions you'll have to let us know the answers to...
Good luck...

I fitted an 1850 engine to a Sprint powered racing hot rod.
(The Sprint engine died after the owner fitted an inferior oil filter

)
To make this work I used the Sprint's engine mount brackets and mounts,
flywheel and backplate on the 1850 engine (from an auto).
This engine was fitted to the Sprint gearbox.
I can't remember exactly but I think we used the 1850's radiator hoses.
I am pretty sure that the gear stick position was unaltered.
As this was a bespoke car the bonnet question I clearly cannot answer.
Ian.

Iirc the sprint engine is more/less rotated than the 1850. I had an 1850 and fitted a sprint gearbox and I thought I had to modify the rear gearbox mount bracket because of the angle. It was 15 years ago but it wasn't a straight fit.

The hole in the 1850 transmission tunnel and coin tray are offset to the right compared to the Sprint

Thanks guys
I'm going to do some more research on this (get pics or actual subframes) and compare
But until then the original stuff stays and I source myself the sprint subby, engine, box and axle ready for the conversion
Ive got trakerjack kit coming and also just found out its running what looks like a tr7 inlet and hs6 carbs"!!!! Somebodies been playing before i got it but I'm away at sea and can only look at pictures until i get home in oct
Thanks to everyone for making me welcome on here
Cheers Jed

The only thing worth pointing out that's not been mentioned above is that since the engine is tipped up by about 10 degrees with a sprint subframe/engine mounts the carbs won't be level, it's probably not enough to upset the float levels too much but worth considering.
It's got less to do with the sprint head being heavier and more to do with it being wider. If you put a sprint engine on an 1850 subframe with a tr6 gearbox on it(ie. without the adapter ring, you could put an 1850 box on it but you'd break it) the exhaust manifold would be through the suspension turret.

OK
So bearing in mind triumph used the same block and sump, then one of them is tilted from upright (either the sprint block is a bit anti-clock from the front, or the 1850 is a bit clockwise) or sump level position
Anybody got any pics of engines in subframes that would show this??
I'm only asking out of curiosity, I'm going to wait until rest of car is sorted (brakes, suspension, megajolt, interior etc) and then do a sprint engine conversion later

I know I am late to the party here, but I have one of each of these sub-frames I reckon I can take a photo against each other if you still want to know?
