The chassis leg under the battery is one of the "rot spots". Alun even does a repair section for this very area (both sides) and I had to have a section grafted in a couple of years ago on my 1850. Andy P's 1500SE suffered from rot in the same area. The main cause is spilt/leaked acid from the battery. To prevent a repeat performance, I used a plastic battery tray from one of my Acclaims.
