After a very enjoyable few hours at the Thornfalcon Classic Car meet in Somerset on Sunday, the rain arrived and a mad dash home, it became apparent that when my wipers are switched off they just stop straight away. Since it's been a very long time since I drove in the rain, I'm pretty sure they used to park. Is this a fault? and if so is the park done in the motor or the stalk switch? Just to say there where four 1850s at the show, two autos and two manual's including mine.

the switch works as it should, so is it the motor? or is the park switch a separate thing to the motor?

I think the park switch sits under the motor,its a white slide switch

The park switch is built into the motor - and is a bit of a pig to get at!

Thanks Steve, So can it be changed seperatly or just go for a new motor? Or given the amount of wet weather driving I do just live with it is an option but I like things to work.

As Dave says, you can get a park switch from Chris Witor, I think 1 or 2 of the other usual suspects stock them too, Fitchetts, Robsport, etc. If the rest of the motor is functioning normally, that's the way to go. Whether you replace the motor or just the switch, the motor will have to come out to do it! Much grovelling behind the dash! Have fun!

Though I am firmly on your side about liking things to work as designed, I have to admit that the Carledo actually has TWO park positions, 1 in the normal place and another about 3" above it! However a touch of the one wipe switch sends it from the "wrong" park to the "right" one so i've not bothered to fix it! It's been like that since I built the car in 2011! I have several spare motors, but the Toledo 2 speed motor has a different stud spacing to all the Dolomite models and ALL my spare ones are Dolomite!

Before pulling the motor or buying a new switch, check all the connectors to from the stalk switch to the motor, a loose connector can cause the same symptom. Could save you a lot of pain!

Usual fault with wiper parking in my ownership has been the connectors at the fuse box. The wiper park supply has a separate feed on

one of the green wires at the fuse box. Have a look at the wiring diagram and give the fuse box and fuses a good clean.
