Triumph 1300 fwd throttle adjustment

OK, my next question!!
I can press the throttle pedal down on my 1300 about an inch before anything happens. I was wondering what the correct way is to adjust this play out. There is nothing in the manuals about this, so I presume it could be play in all of the various linkages.

Check the bush where the rod goes through the bulkhead first.

Then, if it's a tc, have a look at the cable adjustment

Thank you, I will start at the pedal and look for any obvious signs of movement in the system. It isn't a TC, so the throttle linkages seems to be made up of a whole load of rods and brackets!

Nick,

That's correct!

The standard single carb 1300FWD has an all mechanical linkage made up of various pieces of rod and joints. In my experience they can get a bit sloppy but everything should be adjustable and, when right, they are pin sharp.

Sometimes the holes can wear oval in the linkage bracket (see picture below) but this can be carefully rebuilt with weld and ground back down again.

Yep, you were right. I managed a quick look at the linkage this evening when someone was picking up my Herald that I have just sold. The linkage is rattling around where it goes through the bulkhead. I will need to go back with my reading glasses and have a closer look!

Thanks. There does seem to be a bit of play in the linkage, but by far the worst bit is where it goes through the bulkhead. I need to have a closer look at it and see if I can find an illustration of the mechanism.
