Insurance - who do you use and what do you pay

getting ready to renew my insurance, currently with heritage but getting a bit of a runaround.

Initial quote was £153, 3000 miles, agreed value, garaged.

haggling and complaining got that down to £98 which is still more than I pay for my stag which is worth twice as much. But closer inspection shows they've removed legal protection and £30 of the £98 is an admin fee.

will do a bit of shopping around next week but I've never had any success with the usual big boys like Lancaster, Peter Best or Footman James so I now avoid them.

stories welcome, thanks

Have you tried Peter James ?

I've used them for the last ten years, about £210 for Sprint and TR6. Unlimited mileage, three drivers and agreed value, it's a bit inflated due to TR values gone silly.

Currently using Peter James for the second year, paying around £100.
Previously with a very well known "Clasic Car Insurer", had a no fault bump, the insurer turned out to be a broker and couldn't give a poo. PM me for details. They advertise everywhere. Don't touch them. The insurance they issued was with a national name insurer who didn't know their ars3 from their elbow and initially wanted to write my car off. My car still isn't back to the condition it was originally.
Peter James have insured me through a company I've dealt with on and off from the seventies, never had to claim but I get the right feel about them. As with all insurers, they're great until needed, that's the litmus test.

I have used Hagerty International for 5 years now.
I insure my Dolomite 1300, 1850, sprint 1942 Willys Jeep and my 1980 Bentley all for £356, all cars have 3000 miles limited mileage except for the sprint which is limited to 1000 miles

Surely an insurance company is only as good as its claim record - I know we all look for the best offer but with classics a claim is much more complex.

Has anyone had experiences with a claim that can give a good or bad recommendation?

It would be handy for anyone who has had a claim? To tell the rest of us about it if possible :D
I have never had a classic claim, but god forbid what to expect
Cheers,
Tony.

You can't compare different cars, if you damage the front wing on a stag you go a and buy a another one, damage a wing on a Dolly the car is a write off as they are not available in steel.
