did a very pleasant 50 miles round North wales this afternoon and noticed a slight hesitation/misfire under load at lowish revs. for example 30mph in 4th pulling out to 60 zone the car hiccuped then zoomed on to the horizon.

Feels like the condenser is on its way out but as the car is luminition and doesn't have a condenser it won't be that.

I can do the replace and eliminate thing but I'm wondering of anyone had similar experiences with their sprint.

Plugs nice and brown, exhaust nice and grey, no pinking, idles fine at 800rpm, starts reality no over-run, pulls very well up to 5000rpm.

A load missfire like that is gonna be plugs or plug leads.

Occurs on two sets of plugs, not changed anything else yet. Leads Do look a bit old so may change those.

Also look inside cap for traces of carbon. This can cause shorting inside cap and so can a dirty coil top shorting from HT lead to minus terminal.

I had the same issue with my Dolomite 1300, lasted nearly two years of trying everything, coils, caps, leads, carb rebuild, plugs, even new engine earth, fuel pump. Everything was done to try and cure it eventually the luminition system was removed when it was discovered it was extremely hot and the car returned to points and condenser. Problem solved car has now run this year faultlessly.

I kept being told it will not be the ignition system they either work or fail totally and are very reliable. After searching on line after it was removed found others have had the very same problem. The base plate due to the fixing screws supplied with the kit does not sit down tight in the distributor and causes a bad earth and gives the symptoms you are having. When mine was removed it was black underneath from this. Worth checking.
