Adjusting Sprint dizzy

I roughly fitted the Sprint distributor by lining up the timing marks on the cam and pointing the rotor arm at lead one on the cap. Now I have put a timing light on it, I found that even with maximum adjustment of the dizzy cap, the timing light is going off before the pulley has reached the timing plate. That means it is very advanced, say 30 degrees?

So the dizzy is in the wrong place. I am going to remove it and change the orientation. Do I need to go clockwise or anti-clockwise to fix this?

Turning the dizzy counterclockwise retards.

(You're probably just a tooth out, take it out, move the drive a little counterclockwise, pop it back in)
