I reported one this week that was just the v5 and service history - no actual car parts.

And why can't these listings be banned or subject to DVLA/Police intervention.

Exactly, surely eBay is effectively acting as an accomplice to potentially an illegal act? There is no other good reason to sell such items, though I recognise that some paperwork may be collectable. I say that, but do wonder if anyone has ever bumped into a V5 collector?!

He is selling a complete car, DVLA nor the police can do anything as it's legal.
If you have read that it is being sold just for the valuable V5 just how much is a 1977 V5 really worth would someone really ring a car for the sake of a few years road tax saved?

As for the DVLA you can report to them sellers of V5's but they need the reg number, if someone at a later date tries to register a car with that plate this is where the system falls down as all that is asked is for the owner to prove the car is genuine and entitled to that plate, here the car club steps in to say the car has the correct VIN number and is as should be expected for that make/ model as they have only been asked 'Is the car correct for the numbers etc'

In over 25 years I know of only ONE car that ended up on a plate and that was only because the owner stamped a wrong digit on the VIN plate.

I've seen a lot less sold for a lot more! Like that Escort a few months ago!

There's a lot of useful bits in that TR7, interior looks tidy and most of it is still there, even if the shell IS a goner.

Definitely legal to sell that, i've bought similar cars with a completely clear conscience and made a legal profit out of them too.

I think the seller has MADE it look dodgy by suggesting the paperwork might have a separate intrinsic value!

Were it a bit nearer home, I might have a bid myself, a 77 like that will have a 4 speed box and a front loader 3.63 axle both of which are useable in Dolomites, not to mention the engine possibilities.

Totally agree Steve, if they had just put the car up for parts/repair I would not have batted an eyelid, because like you say there is a lot of usable parts there, to say the least, but then they ruined it all with trying to boost it with that wink-wink 'my paperwork sure looks sexy' angle!
