While putting my carbs together I find that the link rod UKC595 (goes from the throttle cable lever to the carb spindles) is quite worn with about half its diameter notched in on both ends. It seems that new rods are no longer available. I was going to try putting a dot of weld into the notches and then file to size, but I seem to have run out of gas! Does anyone know if new ones can be got anywhere, or has someone got a good condition spare? The notched one works alright at the moment, but I guess one day it won't. I will be buying a new gas bottle so that option is still open to me.

I know the part you mean, could you bend up a new one from some metal rod?
I think it is 1/8th inch diameter or 3/16th in old money.

Yes, I guess I could. Not sure I have anything suitable in my bucket of odds and ends. I'll have a hunt. It can't be both 1/8th and 3/16th, but I can simply measure it to find out which. The material needs to be quite hard both to resist premature wear and so that it will hold its shape.

I have a couple of boxes of core carb parts, so may have one/some. However, there is a similar part 158934 on the Sprint though, and I'd have no way of knowing which was which; can you give a centre to centre dimension between the ends?

Thanks Alun. I'll measure it tomorrow. Garage time is over for today.

Have you tried Burlen Carbs in Salisbury?

Alun, pm sent. TrustNo1, thanks for that. If Alun can't find one I'll give them a try.

Update. I didn't get anywhere trying to locate a new or good condition carb link rod, and the one Alun had was worn like mine is. So I bought a short length of 3/8" silver steel rod and quickly bent it up to make a replica of the original. Then I found that I couldn't make the 90 degree bends tight enough so that the spring clip things could be used. Nothing daunted I drilled a 2mm hole in each end and have secured the new link with a washer and split pin at each end. Works a treat. It's doing stuff like this that makes owning old cars so interesting.
