OD to Gbox Bolts

I'm reassembling a Sprint OD unit onto the gearbox. Should there be copper washers or similar on the bolts (set screws)? as obviously the threaded holes go straight in to the gearbox. It was a few years ago when I dismantled these and I couldn't find the bolts that came out.

Once that's done I have a reconditioned Sprint gearbox & OD. Probably for sale soon.

I cant see any on the Triumph manual on the eight bolts?

I would seal every bolt Mart. If not washers a thread sealer loctite or similar. They do tend to leak from these bolts.

I've been looking at my Sprint parts catalogues and 6 of the studs are NKC56 and 2 are NCK57. The washers are NKC70 and the nuts are NKC69. The gasket is 159369.

Thanks guys. There are only six bolts though. It's not the 8 bolts that hold the adaptor to the OD.

Interesting. I can see what you mean about fitting copper washers. The set-screws go into the oil of the gearbox casing. I reckon the Sprint Gearbox designer was not the same guy that did the 1850 casing as the 1850 bell-housing to gearbox casing lower bolt sees the gearbox oil and is fitted with a 500464 copper washer.

As I said when we met last weekend, I don't think (and research has confirmed) the factory put copper washers on these bolts, but experience has taught me that it's a good idea, at least on the lowest pair, as oil can creep down the threads, by-pass the gasket and get round the split in the spring washer normally fitted, to arrive finally on your nice, clean (!!!!!) garage floor! A couple of 3p copper washers stops this from ever happening! A no brainer, really!
