Indicator flashing unit

mine is very slow. can you get a replacement part, if so what is it makes it very slow or is it the wiring? thanks

Does it speed up if you increase the engine revs? The original type work with a bi-metallic strip which heats and cools, making and breaking the circuit. These are very voltage sensitive so when the engine is idling they often slow down due to the reduction in battery voltage.
You would be well advised to get a modern electronic unit. These don't mind if the voltage falls a bit and will keep a constant flash rate under all normal circumstances. I bought one of these

and it works well. The only slight downside is that it doesn't click loudly enough to be noticed.

I understand that the indicators must have an audible warning as well as a visible one.
There are buzzers available for this, the kit car suppliers sell them.
However,
before going to that bother it may be worth trying a different standard flasher unit?
On my old Sprint the indicators only worked when the engine was running but on the 1850 they worked
properly all the time.

They should have a buzzer for when indicators are not being used..... Ie BMW drivers
Appologies if anyone has a bmw, but i am sure you know the type

The std hella ones have one extra ground wire. These give a stabile indicator and an old fashioned tik tok.

I don't know Bill.
The buzzer that Car Builder Solutions is "IVA okay".
No doubt there is a test to check the number of decibels produced is within the required range!

I cant ever remember anyone getting a car failed for no noise from the flasher. Fit electronic and be done with it.

There is no need to fit a buzzer you only need a tell tell on the dash. IVA is nothing to do with the MOT and doesn't apply to a standard factory built car.

Halfords and any other car accessory shop will sell the standard older type flasher unit.

I have just had a thought, are yiu getting this confused when towing a trailer? As you then have to have an audible warning that the lights are flashing on the trailer

There is a downside to the solid state ones.
I had a Police car follow me and it turned out that an indicator light had gone but I didn't know.
Looked this up.......

For an MOT,
hazard lights must have a visible warning light (or lights)
indicators can have either visible or audible, that is to say, if the visible isn't working then it won't fail as long as there is a working audible warning.
(This doesn't follow "if it is fitted it must work" rule. Elsewhere it does say that all warning lights must work?)
