No Brakes

Hi All

Thought as it was a nice afternoon I would take the Sprint for a drive, I set off ok with no problems got about a mile up the road and went to stop at a roundabout but the brake pedal went all the way to the floor so had to stop on hand brake ( lucky I was only doing about 10mph so managed to stop).

I moved the car round the corner out of the way and had a quick look but could not see anything or leaking fluid so slowly drove home.

Removed all the wheels and got under the car and checked to make shore everything was in order which it was and no leaks found the car is fitted with Goodrich braided flexi hoses, and the mater cylinder is still full of brake fluid, I have tried pumping the brake pedal but this does not make any difference as the pedal goes to the floor every time.

So I thought I will ask the good people in the know on the forum to the answer to this problem.

Sounds like the seals in the master cylinder have gone or the piston is stuck at full travel, I had exactly the same problem in my first sprint back in 1989 coming over Itchen Bridge, that unfortunately didn't end well, I stopped by hitting the back of a Capri. This is assuming single line master cylinder, not sure about dual systems.

Yes sorry it is single line master cylinder.

I would concur with the diagnosis, if there is no fluid loss, then the fluid is able to by-pass the seals, possibly due to a scored bore.

The Club has fully reconditioned master cylinders in stock, sleeved in stainless steel. £85.00 inc delivery on an exchange basis for single line cylinders.

Don't pump the pedal when there is no fluid in the cylinder, else you may need a servo too!
