Sprint rear wheel bearings

I am getting paranoid. But I keep thinking I can hear a rear wheel bearing making a bit of noise. I asked the MoT man to check it thoroughly, and he said it felt smooth but a tiny bit of movement, so inconclusive.

Is there any way of checking? Or should I pull the shaft out? Would that help me check? Guessing I will get a direct feel of the bearing.

I can access a TSSC type hubpuller, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Or should I just not worry? (2000+ miles starting in 9 days time, and counting!) Or just replace anyway and put my mind at rest. If so, a good source? Waiting to hear back from Mick Dolphin but he doesn't always have stuff.

I think you are being "over cautious" - but I don't see that being the wrong approach given the adventures in store over the next few weeks.
Are they GHK1144?
I think (but can't confirm right now) that the bearing is Timken p/n 2585 (cone) and 2523-S (race)
I don't know what the -s suffix means, except that 2585/2523 pairs (genuine timken) are about 35 quid and the 2585/2523-S pairs are over 100!
If I get chance I'll do some digging.

Cheers, Sam

Panic over. The bearings are definitely smooth, but the brakes are catching VERY slightly in a couple of places, making a slight rubbing sound. Phew, saves me a job!
