Heads UP are Brake Pads getting rare?

Just been online looking for pads for the Dolomite. Almost like hens teeth with out of stock coming up on searches or nothing now listed. Local Moss branch said they don't have them and cant find any now, Rimmer's have Green Stuff in stock but I have been advised away from them. I rang Wins International who have them in by TRW, but not many. He told me that the main manufacturers have all stopped doing them so he bought the last 22 sets he could find and now after I purchases two sets, one to fit and one to keep for when needed, they will only have 10 sets left.

These are on many different cars. Maybe widen the search.

Standard Dolomite brake pads are sill plentiful and available from any good supplier, QH have stock under part number BP100 which most independent shops use.

QH....BP100
Mintex/TRW...GDB535
B&B....BBP1054

unless you're going through pads every week there should be enough to last a few decades.

I have at least three sets amongst Jon Tilson's things and there was no interest in the last set I listed!

As said before, they are common to many cars, and I can't see them being problematic.

Not a very helpfull comment. I do find at times this club and its p155 taking is not on, and others I know have left because of it.

I asked the question for a good reason and trying to be of some help. I went to a Moss showroom close to me and they told me they didn't have any and looked into getting some but could not find any from any of their sources. So I went on line to the usual suppliers, including the club NCA, and they were mostly not listed or out of stock. Then Wins International were listing in stock so I rang them. As I said in my first post, it was his info saying they were now not being made by any major manufacturer and he got the last 22 sets he could find from TRW so I asked the question.

I tried searching for Quintel Hazel and the result came up with a few stockists. A BP100 search in those stockists I looked at came up with only one result. A rear bumper protector for a BMW Mini. The rest nothing. Put in Dolomite brake pads also on the QH searches and came up with nothing found.

Since posting I have looked at Amazon, which is not my first port of call, and found some listed at a good price under a QH stockist and stated as TRW manufacture. How many do they have though, and can they get any more if what Wins said is correct?

The consensus seems to be is that there are plenty about, good, but if they are starting to run out at least I've got some.

But learning a lesson, dont post any more questions like this in the clubs forums.

Disappointed to your your comments here Rob.
Justyn was clearly making a light hearted joke.

It seems to me that friendly banter doesn't translate well at all into typed comments on platforms such as this forum?

In answer to your original question,
there are many cars that use almost identical pads, I know because once upon a time I fitted them.
These pads won't cross reference with Dolomite pads when checking part numbers though, but more importantly will still fit.
Some have a different hardness of lining (eg Sprints have harder linings than other Dolomites) hence incompatible part numbers
but in actual braking this makes little difference if any at all (although the harder will last a little longer).

From memory interchangeable include Hillman Avenger, Chrysler Sunbeam, Ford Escort mark 2, Capri, Cortina
and Vauxhall Viva/Magnum.
I can't remember if the Dolomite pads needed a little metal filed off to fit the Ford or if it was the other way round but
anyhow it wasn't a big deal, given that the linings were untouched.

Obviously it is up to you Rob, but I do feel that there is no need for you to stop posting on the forum
and hope you will reconsider and then change your mind.

cheers
Ian.

Hence the  based on them having 22 sets but only 10 for sale (I know they probably have sold the other 10 sets)

Anyhoo QH (who I buy from direct) are still supplying them to a lot of independent car shops and have about 1000 sets. I find businesses will only use ONE supplier which is likely why Winns and others are claiming there are only 10 sets left in the world. a quick search on Ebay also finds most supplier have '10 left' (because they only list 10 at a time)
I appreciate Rob being worried about the lack of a parts and if you don't ask then others may think the same, there will always be one smart arse who knows how to make or where to get parts.

Bob, I'm surprised you didn't ask me first. I should have something among the job lot of parts I got from Steve W. I'll have a look. The parts are close to hand in the garage so I should be able to lay my hands on them fairly quickly.

Thanks Dave but its all done now,
Brake pads, stainless braided hoses all round., new greaseable track rod ends, rack and ball joint gators. May get another run out this week in it to bed the brakes in before it gets put away for winter if the roads don't get salted.
