Hello good people
I finally got VYK running again today. Hopefully if you click the link you will be able to see a video;

My question for all of you guys who are more experienced with this engine than I am is;
Is mine a bit top end noisy? Timing chain? Valve clearances? Anything to worry about?
All the best, Bish.

I would say valveplay. Did you set by the book or the narrow version?

Thanks Jeroen. I have just got the engine running after it has sat idle for a few years. To be honest I haven’t set the valves yet. But I guess that should be next on my list! I have seen your posts on setting the valves a bit tighter.
I value your opinion, if you think it’s nothing unusual, I will breathe a bit easier.
Thanks again.

To be sure you should be able to hear the noise from front to rear under the valvecover.

Yes I think the noise is consistent from front to rear of the valve cover. Maybe slightly louder at the front which made me think it may be the timing chain. I will take the cam cover off again to check that oil is finding its way up to the top end, and check the valve measurements.
The car is still a little way off of being able to drive and hit the road. I haven’t run it for more than 10 minutes. Maybe a proper warm up will help after such a long time dormant? I am happy that the noise isn’t a terminal one, and so will investigate later.
Thanks.
